Whenever I talk to young founders, I often ask them, “Who’s in your ecosystem?” And most of the time, they look at me with a puzzled face.
So let’s start from the beginning. What is a startup ecosystem?
Think of it like a garden. You can’t grow a healthy plant all by itself in a dark room. It needs sunlight, water, good soil, and a few other plants around it. A startup is just like that. It requires an environment that combines mentors, investors, incubators, fellow founders, government programs, and community networks to grow and thrive.
You may have the best idea in the world, but if you’re trying to build it all alone, without connecting to the right people or resources, you’ll struggle unnecessarily. That’s why ecosystems matter - they make your journey smoother, faster, and far more rewarding.
Let me share a real story. A young founder I mentored had a great idea around sustainable packaging. He was brilliant, hardworking, and passionate. But for months, he struggled—no funds, no guidance, no direction. Once he joined our incubator, everything changed.
